Color Treated & Highlighted Hair Treatments That Strengthen and Restore

Treatment for Chemically Processed Hair

Color-treated and highlighted hair requires a unique balance of moisture, protein, and protection. Bleaching, toning, and chemical coloring processes weaken the hair’s internal structure and strip the cuticle of its natural defenses. This leads to dryness, brittleness, increased breakage, and a loss of shine or vibrancy over time.

A professional highlighted hair treatment must strengthen and smooth the hair while preserving its tone and dimension. At SMOOTHED, we understand how color behaves—and how keratin can support it. We use non-toxic, formaldehyde-free keratin treatments to improve elasticity, reduce porosity, and leave the hair feeling healthier, stronger, and visibly shinier after each service.

Timeline For Highlighted Hair: We recommend to get any highllight/balayage/bleach work of any kind done at least 2 weeks or more before your next keratin treatment.  Bleach breaks down everything in your hair, including keratin, so doing so after could result in a less effecyive treatment.

Timeline For Color Treated Hair: Going Darker is definitely less damaging to the treatment and hair in general so this is less important as far as appt timing.  Things to note.  Traditional Keratin treatments have been known and advertised for years as color locking treatments.  Our treatments at Smoothed are formaldehyde-free and often can do the opposite.  In rare cases, artifical color has been lightened during appts (never on virgin hair) and because that is a possibility, we recommend to color after your treatment.  2-3 washes later is totally fine.

What Is a Keratin Treatment and How Does It Help Color-Treated Hair?

What Is a Keratin Treatment and How Does It Help Color-Treated Hair?

Keratin is a protein found naturally in healthy hair. After a color service, this protein is often depleted, leaving the cuticle exposed and the internal fiber weakened. This creates a rough, porous surface that absorbs environmental moisture, releases color faster, and increases styling stress.

A keratin treatment for color-treated hair helps by restoring protein and sealing the cuticle. This process protects color integrity while creating a smoother surface, making hair less prone to frizz, fading, and mechanical damage. At SMOOTHED, we work exclusively with formaldehyde-free formulas that are gentle on both hair and scalp. Every formula is chosen to complement your color—not compromise it.

Custom Keratin Solutions for Color and Highlights

Color-treated and highlighted hair varies in tone, porosity, and chemical history. It may include full coloring, balayage, highlights, glossing, or lightening at the ends. No matter the approach, a customized color treated hair treatment begins with understanding your hair’s current condition and selecting a compatible formula that supports color-treated strands.

  • Color-Safe Smoothing for Processed Hair
Helps seal lifted cuticles and extend the life of your color without causing fading or brassiness.
  • Strength-Rebuilding Keratin
Formulated to reinforce chemically weakened strands with essential protein, restoring durability and elasticity.
  • Moisture-Locking Blends for Highlighted Ends
Targets dry, overexposed areas to retain hydration and reduce the appearance of breakage.
  • Volume-Control for Bleached Hair
Minimizes roughness and puffiness, especially in porous, high-lifted sections.
  • Express Keratin for Recently Treated Hair
A short-term highlighted hair treatment for clients who need gentle smoothing soon after a color service.
  • Fade-Resistant Keratin Formulas
Ideal for vibrant or fashion colors that require minimal disruption to color bonds or tone.

Each service is customized on appointment day following an in-person evaluation. We never pre-select a formula—we match it only after reviewing your hair’s current tone, density, and strength.
