Experience the benefits of a professional color-treated hair treatment designed to restore structure, repair damage, and control frizz without affecting tone or color. Our keratin treatment for highlighted hair protects fragile strands and helps color last longer with less fading, breakage, or dullness.
Color-treated and highlighted hair requires a unique balance of moisture, protein, and protection. Bleaching, toning, and chemical coloring processes weaken the hair’s internal structure and strip the cuticle of its natural defenses. This leads to dryness, brittleness, increased breakage, and a loss of shine or vibrancy over time.
A professional highlighted hair treatment must strengthen and smooth the hair while preserving its tone and dimension. At SMOOTHED, we understand how color behaves—and how keratin can support it. We use non-toxic, formaldehyde-free keratin treatments to improve elasticity, reduce porosity, and leave the hair feeling healthier, stronger, and visibly shinier after each service.
Timeline For Highlighted Hair: We recommend to get any highllight/balayage/bleach work of any kind done at least 2 weeks or more before your next keratin treatment. Bleach breaks down everything in your hair, including keratin, so doing so after could result in a less effecyive treatment.
Timeline For Color Treated Hair: Going Darker is definitely less damaging to the treatment and hair in general so this is less important as far as appt timing. Things to note. Traditional Keratin treatments have been known and advertised for years as color locking treatments. Our treatments at Smoothed are formaldehyde-free and often can do the opposite. In rare cases, artifical color has been lightened during appts (never on virgin hair) and because that is a possibility, we recommend to color after your treatment. 2-3 washes later is totally fine.
Keratin is a protein found naturally in healthy hair. After a color service, this protein is often depleted, leaving the cuticle exposed and the internal fiber weakened. This creates a rough, porous surface that absorbs environmental moisture, releases color faster, and increases styling stress.
A keratin treatment for color-treated hair helps by restoring protein and sealing the cuticle. This process protects color integrity while creating a smoother surface, making hair less prone to frizz, fading, and mechanical damage. At SMOOTHED, we work exclusively with formaldehyde-free formulas that are gentle on both hair and scalp. Every formula is chosen to complement your color—not compromise it.
Color-treated and highlighted hair varies in tone, porosity, and chemical history. It may include full coloring, balayage, highlights, glossing, or lightening at the ends. No matter the approach, a customized color treated hair treatment begins with understanding your hair’s current condition and selecting a compatible formula that supports color-treated strands.
Each service is customized on appointment day following an in-person evaluation. We never pre-select a formula—we match it only after reviewing your hair’s current tone, density, and strength.

We don’t generalize based on hair color or texture. We assess your hair carefully and treat it with intention—because processed hair deserves focused care and protection.
Yes. We offer keratin treatment for color treated hair that supports freshly processed strands without lifting or interfering with your tone. In fact, the treatment can help seal the cuticle, reduce fading, and make your color appear more vibrant and reflective. We always perform a hands-on evaluation before applying products to ensure your hair is ready.
No. A properly formulated highlighted hair treatment will not alter tone when applied by a skilled stylist. At SMOOTHED, we select fade-resistant keratin blends that are safe on blonde, brunette, red, or fashion-colored hair. If your hair is freshly toned or lifted, we’ll tailor the treatment to maintain your color’s finish.
Results typically last 3 to 5 months depending on your hair type, the color process used, and your aftercare. A custom color treated hair treatment can extend the time between salon visits by reducing breakage and color loss. Using sulfate-free shampoos and avoiding high heat helps preserve both your keratin and your tone.
Yes—if the wrong product is used or applied improperly. Some keratin systems contain formaldehyde or high-heat application methods that can damage fragile, lightened hair. At SMOOTHED, all of our keratin treatment for highlighted hair options are fume-free, formaldehyde-free, and selected specifically for chemically altered strands. We never apply one-size-fits-all formulas to compromised hair.
In many cases, no waiting period is required. We offer highlighted hair treatment options that are safe to apply the same week as your color service, depending on the technique used. If your hair is especially dry or fragile, we may recommend a few days of deep conditioning first. Every decision is based on your hair’s current condition.
