First appointment

The rates

Your rate is set by one thing — who you book. Every Smoothologist performs the same method with the same product, and their rate rises with the treatments they’ve completed. Your curl pattern and thickness set how much time we reserve, never what you pay.

Established500+ treatments From$500

Five hundred completed treatments and roughly a year with us — the point where a Smoothologist is cleared to work beautifully on their own.

From there the rate moves with the count:

500 treatments$500
1,000 treatments$550
1,500 treatments$600
Why some Established rates are higher

If you see an Established Smoothologist at $550 or $600 rather than $500, it’s good news — they’re further along in their keratin career. They’ve completed another 500 treatments since reaching this tier, and they’re getting close to the 2,000 that makes someone Senior.

That gap matters more than the price suggests. We introduce textured hair at the 500-treatment mark, so a Smoothologist’s first 500 are largely Type 1 and 2. Someone booking at $550 or $600 has likely spent at least half of their most recent 500 treatments on textured hair, and has considerably more of it under their belt.

Booking Type 3 or 4? Your Smoothologist may ask for a photo of your hair first, simply to make sure it’s in their wheelhouse. If holding onto your curl pattern is the priority, a Senior is who we’d point you toward.

Senior2,000+ treatments From$650

Two thousand treatments is what makes a Smoothologist senior. It isn’t a title we hand out — it’s the widest range of textures and hair histories on the team.

Required for children. Recommended for Type 3 and 4, for 4C particularly, and for colour-treated or previously processed hair. Most of the work on our social media is done at this level and by Kaylie.

MasterKaylie · founder From$1,100

Kaylie built the method everyone here is trained in, with roughly 15,000 treatments behind her. Founder-level consultation, suited to transformational first visits and to hair that has been through a lot.

Her calendar is the tightest on the team, so book early if your dates are fixed. Many guests start here for one to three appointments, then move to the team for maintenance.

Teaching

Education is the future of SMOOTHED

There are so few good keratin options out there, and we think we know why: stylists have almost nowhere to go and learn this properly. So we’re starting where we can — with our own team, in our own salon.

Teaching is the part of this work Kaylie loves most. Once the team is fully trained and the salon is running beautifully, the plan is to take this on the road and teach other stylists what we know.

The two rates below are how we make that work — worth Kaylie’s time, worth the Smoothologist’s time, and worth yours.

Teaching Chair$250 off Kaylie From$850

Kaylie leads your appointment while a Smoothologist learns her method alongside her. You get founder-level attention at $250 off her rate, and we get to teach on real hair.

  • Kaylie guarantees the finished result. She’s there the whole way through, and the work leaves to her standard.
  • Open regularly now. It runs on the mornings Kaylie is teaching, so there’s usually something on the calendar. Live availability shows when you book.
  • Longer, and more talkative. Teaching happens out loud, with explaining and second passes a standard appointment doesn’t have. Most guests tell us that’s the best part.
  • Lovely for a first visit. Plenty of guests start here to learn their hair with Kaylie, then move to the team for maintenance.
  • No children. Teaching a full treatment and looking after a child at once doesn’t work.

One thing to be sure about.

You do need to be genuinely comfortable with a Smoothologist learning on you. Kaylie’s hands are on your hair and your result is guaranteed — but you’re part of how someone gets trained, and that’s exactly what the rate reflects.

Smoothologist in TrainingType 1 & 2 only From$350

Not a cheaper version of the same thing — a different arrangement. You’re helping someone brand new get miles on their tires, and going in knowing exactly what that involves.

  • Plan for a longer visit. Someone learning works more slowly and checks more often, which is exactly what you want. Don’t book anything tight afterward.
  • They are genuinely new. Supervision means Kaylie or a Senior is in the salon watching. It doesn’t mean the hands in your hair have done this hundreds of times.
  • Results can vary. The work on our social media is done by Seniors and by Kaylie. A training appointment may not reach that standard.
  • Type 1 and 2 only. Curl patterns are the last thing a Smoothologist trains on here. Type 3 and 4 start at Established.

The discount is the accommodation.

SMOOTHED doesn’t offer refunds, and there are no redos or complimentary corrections on training appointments. The reduced rate is the accommodation — there isn’t a further discount or a free correction on top of it. If that isn’t a trade you want to make, booking an Established Smoothologist is the happier choice.

Everything else

Children’s keratinIts own appointment From$750

$750 with a Senior Smoothologist, or $1,100 with Kaylie. Those are the only two routes — our Smoothologists in training don’t work on children, and children can’t be booked into the Teaching Chair.

It’s its own appointment with no curl pattern to choose, not a version of an adult treatment. It costs more than you’d expect for a shorter service because a child’s appointment asks more of us, not less.

Usually the same for the second and third visit. After that the hair tends to arrive far more manageable, and your Smoothologist has the option to move you to $650.

HaircutWith any Smoothologist $50

Optional with any Smoothologist, first-time or returning. Add it when you book so the time gets reserved — don’t assume it can be added once your appointment has started.

Type 4C hairSame rates, different advice

4C doesn’t carry a different price. What it changes is who you should book, and that comes down to what you want out of it.

Maximum smoothing, not chasing curl retention? Established will do that well. Keeping your curl pattern matters? Book a Senior or Kaylie — curl is the last texture a Smoothologist trains on here, so they’re the only ones who have worked on 4C.

What your next visit costsMaintenance

Once we’ve worked with your hair there’s less to guess at. Your Smoothologist quotes your maintenance before you leave, based on the time it took, the product it used, and any customization specific to you.

Many guests stay close to their original investment. Where hair consistently asks for more, a quote may be adjusted — often in the region of $25 to $75. It can move down too, if your hair settles into needing less.

Could it cost more than listed?Overtime

Our average appointment runs three hours. There’s no overtime charge unless yours passes four, billed at $50 per additional fifteen minutes. About 95% of clients pay the rate listed, exactly as listed.

Wherever possible we’ll talk to you about it before going ahead, rather than at checkout.

My Smoothologist’s price went upWhy

They likely hit another 500 treatments. Every 500 completed moves them up $50, so a Smoothologist you found early stays with you as they get better, and their rate reflects that.

I can’t find my price pointAvailability

Each Smoothologist books independently, so if nobody at your preferred level is showing, they’re already booked for those times. Openings move around — it’s worth checking back.

Is it the same treatment at every rate?Yes

Every member of the team performs the same SMOOTHED method with the same product. Price reflects the experience of the person doing it, never a different service.

And your curl pattern or thickness never changes it. Book your correct hair type anyway — it sets the time we reserve, and the wrong one can mean rescheduling.

The real number

What this looks like over a year

Our happiest clients come in three to four times a year, most investing around $600 a visit. In between, they have hair that largely takes care of itself — far less time spent on it, noticeably better length retention, and real savings on products that were never doing much anyway.
