Coily & 4C

Not to change how your hair looks. To change how it acts.

Anywhere in the fours — 4A, 4B, 4C. Tight coils, and everything that comes with them.

Here’s what a keratin treatment does for it:
Easier wash days Fewer fairy knots Less product Your goal, not ours

What It Actually Is

Coily plus dense is a recipe for a long day

Fairy knots. Products layered on products. A wash day that eats an afternoon and still doesn’t give you the wash and go you wanted.

That’s the part keratin actually changes — not what your hair looks like, but what it costs you in time, money and energy.

Most of our 4C clients aren’t asking us to change the look of their hair. They’re asking us to make it easier to live with.

What Keratin Does About It

So here’s what a treatment actually changes

That’s the problem. This is what we do about it — four things you should expect from a keratin treatment on coily hair.

Wash day gets shorter
Easier to detangle, easier to work through, and far less of your afternoon gone.
Fewer fairy knots
A smoother strand catches on itself less, which is where most of them come from.
The product stack shrinks
Hair that takes product properly needs less of it. Most clients drop several steps.
Less breakage
Less fighting with it means less mechanical manipulation, which is what costs you length.

Before You Book

The trade-offs

Please Read This This is a smoothing treatment. It is designed to change your pattern.

We say that plainly on every textured hair page we have, because it’s the thing that matters most. Any treatment on textured hair carries some version of a risk to your pattern.

Some areas may take the treatment very well and lose more pattern than others. Your pattern can come out less consistent than it went in — often because of tension in places you can’t see with the naked eye, which a treatment can bring to the surface.

What we do about it is customize. Every treatment is built to lower that risk as far as it can go.

How much will my pattern actually move?
Three things decide it

It varies enormously, and not because of how hard we try.

  • How fine or coarse your strand is. Finer strands stretch more. Coarser strands hold their shape and stretch less.
  • How healthy your hair is. Healthier hair takes more, so it stretches more. Compromised hair means we go gentler, so it stretches less.
  • How many treatments you’ve had. The results build.
Fine Medium Coarse Most A lot Some A lot Some A little Some A little Least Loose Curly Coily Your pattern → Coloured or heat-damaged? Your square stops predicting. It can land anywhere.
Darker means more loosening

Coily hair sits in the right-hand column, which is why the shift is gradual rather than dramatic. A coarse coil is the least likely of any texture to move, and a fine one moves considerably more.

Most of our truly coily clients don’t see a big shift in the look of their curls from one treatment, or even two. If dropping your pattern is the goal, it’s usually the third where you start to see it.
Whatever your goal is, is our goal
Maximum stretch or maximum curl — you choose

If you want your curls stretched as much as possible, that’s what our team will work toward. If you want to keep as much curl as possible, that’s what our team will work toward.

Our promise to every textured client is the same: we will always try to get you closer to your goal, and we will always do our best not to compromise your texture getting there.

Who should I book with?
Senior Smoothologist or above

For this texture we strongly recommend a Senior Smoothologist or Kaylie. Much of what makes a Smoothologist senior is the sheer range of textures they’ve worked on, and coily hair is where that experience matters most.

Book under type 3 & 4, and mention in your booking notes that your texture is more coily.

That note doesn’t change your price and it doesn’t change your appointment length. It just gives your Smoothologist a heads up so she can prep her station — we often reach for different tools and different products on this texture.
Does it get better over time?
This texture especially

More than any other texture we work on. Coily hair builds.

Each treatment leaves your hair healthier, and healthier hair takes the next treatment better. Judge your results over two or three appointments rather than one — that’s where this texture really shows what it can do.

Our Promise

We can’t promise you a specific result

These are smoothing treatments. They are designed to alter the pattern of your hair, and no one can honestly promise you exactly where yours will land.

What we can promise is that every one of us is deeply trained in the method of Smoothologie — gently softening and smoothing frizz, adding real manageability, and keeping your natural texture and the integrity of your hair intact. Whatever your goal is, that is the goal we work toward.

This is still a chemical service, and it still carries risk. That part we won’t dress up.

But you’re taking that risk with people who genuinely care about your coils — and who will do everything in their power to protect them.
