SMOOTHED × Keratin Revolution

The treatment I looked for for ten years.

I spent a decade doing keratin the old way. Then California changed its cosmetics law, and I had a choice — find something cleaner that actually worked, or stop doing the service I love. This is the brand that answered it.

How we met

I was already looking before the law made me.

For ten years I worked with the products the industry handed me. They performed. But I always wanted a cleaner treatment — I just never found one that actually held, actually smoothed, actually did the job on real hair in a real salon.

Then in 2025 California's Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act came into force, and formaldehyde and methylene glycol were no longer legal in cosmetics sold here. If I wanted to keep specializing in keratin, I had to pivot the whole business. So I went looking properly — and I found Keratin Revolution, a UK brand held to a standard I'd been quietly wishing for.

The feedback from my clients was insane, immediately.

I didn't have to sell it. They felt the difference in the chair — no fumes, no burning eyes, no three days of waiting to wash. And the results held. That was the part I'd never been able to find anywhere else.

Why a British brand

Two countries. Two very different lists.

A product isn't clean because a label says so. It's clean because a regulator drew a line, and the formula stayed on the right side of it. The UK and the US draw that line in very different places — each fine stroke below is one prohibited substance.

1,600+ Prohibited in the UK & EU

Under EU Regulation 1223/2009, mirrored in UK law. Substances are restricted on suspicion of harm, not only on proof of it.

~11 Prohibited federally in the US

The FDA prohibits or restricts around eleven ingredients. The 2022 MoCRA law added registration and reporting duties — but not a banned list.

California is the exception. Its Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act took effect on 1 January 2025 and prohibits 24 ingredients — formaldehyde and methylene glycol among them — with a further 26 following in 2027. It's why my business had to change, and why it changed for the better. Sources: EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009; 21 CFR 700.11–700.35; California AB 2762 and AB 496.

The brand

Keratin Revolution, in their own terms.

A British brand formulating smoothing treatments since 2010 — which means every product is built for the stricter list by default, not reformulated for it after the fact. The treatment is glyoxylic acid based, with no added formaldehyde.

Built in the UK

Made to the stricter standard

Formulated under UK and EU cosmetic rules, where more than 1,600 substances are off the table before a chemist starts work.

Professional first

Trusted by 5,000+ salons

Salon-approved and used by professionals worldwide, with training and certification behind the treatment — not a bottle sold cold.

Since 2010

Smoothing is the whole business

Not a smoothing line inside a giant catalogue. Anti-frizz is what they've spent fifteen years refining, treatment through aftercare.

Aftercare that matches

The result goes home

Silk Coat, argan oil and Formula.Five molecular repair extend the same result between appointments — so month three still looks like week one.

Packaging

Recyclable, cruelty-free

Fully recyclable packaging, and no animal testing — consistent with how the rest of the brand is run.

Reach

Shipping UK, US and EU

Already delivering across three markets — which is exactly what makes the next part possible.

What changed in my chair

Since the day I brought it in.

Zero

refunds on this treatment, to date.

Zero

clients who've had an allergic reaction to it, to date.

95%

rebook, appointment after appointment. That's the whole review.

A very big reason SMOOTHED works is that we're using a product this good. It changed my results, my business model, and what I'm willing to breathe for eight hours a day. Every client is still patch-tested and consulted first — I'm just no longer bracing for the part nobody enjoyed.

What's next

We're bringing it to the United States.

I'm collaborating with Keratin Revolution to bring their products to the US properly — because I want more women, more men, and everyone in between to find out what a good keratin treatment actually does for their hair and for their week.

And I want more stylists working with safer products. Not because a law told them to. Because the safer one turned out to be the better one.

For stylists · Virtual

A virtual Q&A with Kaylie & Jenny

This is a virtual conversation, not a training. If you're a stylist deciding whether to bring Keratin Revolution into your business, this live Q&A is here to help you make that call. Kaylie is 15,000+ treatments in — she and Jenny will share why they chose the brand, what it's like to work with, and why their clients keep coming back.

To be clear: this isn't a hands-on or technique class. Kaylie won't be teaching her methods or how she gets her results — that comes from years of experience, and will be its own dedicated training down the line. This is simply about the brand, honestly: why we love it, and whether it's right for you.
