One last thing

Before you choose

Read any that apply to you
Booking a Type 4C appointment

We strongly recommend booking Type 4C appointments with a Senior Smoothologist.

Much of what makes a Smoothologist senior is the sheer range of textures they've worked on. Our Smoothologists in training generally haven't worked on 4C hair yet, and our Established Smoothologists have done only a handful of 4C treatments.

If you've had a relaxer or another smoothing treatment

Working over relaxed hair or a previous smoothing treatment is safe. There's no waiting period and nothing you need to grow out first.

The one thing we need is for you to tell your stylist what's already in your hair. Knowing your history is what lets us customize the treatment properly, and it's the difference between a great result and an unpredictable one.

If you color darker or cover gray

Book your keratin treatment before your darker color or gray-coverage appointment.

Keratin can lighten, pull or shift artificial color and may expose extra warmth. Most clients prefer to refresh color afterward for a cleaner, more predictable result.

Darker color and gray coverage can be scheduled any time after your first wash following the keratin treatment.
If you get highlights or bleach

Book your keratin treatment roughly two to four weeks after highlighting or bleaching.

We don't treat freshly bleached hair. Recently lightened hair is especially vulnerable, and recovery time protects its condition.

Keratin may also shift your tone slightly. We don't recommend highlighting freshly treated hair either, since bleach breaks the treatment down and shortens how long it lasts.

How our waitlist works

Book the first future appointment that works for you, then join the waitlist for any earlier date you'd prefer.

Booking first gives you a secure date while still keeping you in line for an earlier opening.

Step 3 of 3

Choose your Smoothologist

Kaylie · Founder

Master Smoothologist

$1,200

Learn more

Kaylie has personally completed around 15,000 treatments, and developed the method the whole team works from. She only guarantees work done by her own hands.

She usually sees each guest for their first one to three appointments. Maintenance then moves to a Senior or Established Smoothologist, so she can keep welcoming new clients while your long-term care stays consistent.

Advanced

Senior Smoothologist

$650

Learn more

More than 2,000 treatments completed. Reaching 2,000 is what makes a Smoothologist Senior, and that depth covers a broad range of curl patterns, hair histories and highly customized goals.

  • Our recommendation for the most reliable result.
  • The right choice for Type 4C and for complex colour or chemical history.

Signature experience

Established Smoothologist

From $500

Learn more

More than 500 treatments completed, cleared to work unsupervised. $500 is our benchmark — the lowest rate we do a treatment at outside of a training appointment. Pricing rises $50 for every additional 500 treatments.

  • A strong balance of experience, customization and value.
  • Most of their first 500 treatments were Type 1–2, so they've done comparatively few Type 3–4.
  • For a Type 3–4 booking they may ask for a photo of your hair first.

Limited availability

Smoothologist in Training

$350

Learn more

A hands-on training appointment with a Smoothologist in the earliest stage of their SMOOTHED training. Kaylie or a Senior supervises every one, start to finish.

  • Your appointment is scheduled longer, because a trainee works more slowly.
  • Your Smoothologist is genuinely new. Supervised, but new.
  • Your result may not match what you've seen on our social media — that work is done by Senior Smoothologists and Kaylie.
  • Not eligible for redos, corrections or refunds. The reduced rate is the accommodation.
  • Most trainee work so far has been Type 1–2. If your hair is Type 3–4, a Senior is the better match.
  • Bookable once. After that you're priced at your Smoothologist's current level.

Children's Keratin

$750

Learn more

Its own appointment, booked only with Kaylie or a Senior Smoothologist. It's the most advanced work we do, and it isn't priced like a standard treatment.

$750 is usually where the second and third treatments sit as well. After that, hair tends to arrive in a much more manageable place, and your Smoothologist may have the option to move to $650.

Your treatment, done by Kaylie, with a new member of her team working alongside her as she teaches. Kaylie leads the whole appointment and her hands are in your hair the whole way.

This is how Kaylie trains the Smoothologists she hires — it isn't a class for visiting stylists. Before anyone takes their own first client, they train hands-on in her chair under close supervision.

You get pulled into the process more than in a normal appointment, and most guests find it genuinely fun. Kaylie guarantees your finished result, exactly as she would in any appointment of her own.

Only open when Kaylie is actively training.

Independent Smoothologist information

Each Smoothologist at SMOOTHED operates as an independent business owner and independently manages their own scheduling, pricing, payments, client relationships, policies, records and day-to-day business operations. Unless otherwise stated, appointments are booked directly with the individual Smoothologist, who is responsible for the services they provide and the ongoing care of their clients.

We can't wait to meet your hair.
